The following series of pictures are of a commision we are just finishing, it is a gate built using only traditional blacksmithing techneques. it is a good example of the diference in quality between fabricated work and hand forged ironwork.

The Finished Healed Tenon

This shows a typical joint used on the hanging side of the gate, allthough it is considerably slower to build gates the traditional way, the features of the design are greatly improved by this.

The Finished Gates

Please take time to view each picture as it is intended to help educate possible clients to art of blacksmithing. Every millimetre of bar has been through the fire, all the main bars started life as round bar this is heated up and forged square, resulting in a non uniform look and a surface texture.

Punched Holes

Showing that each bar is heated up and punches of various shapes are forged into the bar to create a trellis affect.punching holes this way is a very basic way of joining metal work but the effect is outstanding and very strong.
